God is in your ordinary days
"And whatever you do, in word or deed, do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him."
— Colossians 3:17 (ESV)
As a mom—especially a homeschooling one—so many of our days can feel like a blur. Wake up, make breakfast, wrangle toddlers, wipe sticky hands, read books, fold laundry, repeat. We dream of mountaintop moments or special days filled with purpose, clarity, and deep spiritual meaning. And yet, most of our lives are lived in the valleys—the slow and steady rhythm of the ordinary.
But here's the truth the Lord keeps whispering to my heart: He is just as present in the ordinary as He is in the miraculous.
God doesn’t just meet us in church services or quiet time (though He absolutely does). He is with us when we're sitting at the table sounding out phonics. He is with us when we’re sweeping crumbs off the floor for the third time before noon. He is in the diaper changes, the dishes, the spelling tests, and the whispered bedtime prayers.
In fact, the ordinary is often where the extraordinary happens. God molds hearts through routine. He strengthens relationships through repetition. He grows patience, endurance, and gentleness in the quiet moments when no one else is watching.
If you're anything like me, you sometimes wonder if you're doing "enough"—for your kids, for your homeschool, for the Kingdom. But sister, faithfulness in the ordinary is Kingdom work. Loving your family well today, even in the mess and monotony, is deeply spiritual.
So today, don’t rush through the ordinary looking for something more meaningful. Instead, invite Jesus into your normal. Ask Him to open your eyes to His presence in your routine. Let His peace settle into your home like sunlight through a window—quiet, soft, but steady.
You don’t have to wait for a “big moment” to encounter God. He is already with you—in every math lesson, every snuggle, and every sink of soapy water.
Reflection Questions:
In what ways do I struggle to find purpose in my ordinary days?
How can I invite Jesus into the small, routine parts of my day today?
What is one ordinary task I can do today with extraordinary love?
Prayer:
Lord, thank You for meeting me in the everyday. Help me to see Your presence in the small things, and to remember that faithfulness in the ordinary is beautiful to You. Let my home be a place where Your Spirit dwells, even in the chaos and routine. Amen.
